Results are presented from comparative chemical and mineralogical analyses of the various types of primordial matter encountered in the solar system, including stratospheric micrometeorites, the dust component of Comet P/Halley, carbonaceous inclusions from ordinary chondrites, and CI and CM carbonaceous chondrites. It is shown that the most pristine type of cosmic matter is represented by porous chondritic interplanetary dust particles (PCIDPs). It is believed that the parent bodies of PCIDPs are comets.
