New optical and IR images of the locality of the X-ray pulsar 1E2259 + 586, as well as revised astrometry are presented. Although the optical counterpart cannot be conclusively identified, several new candidates are identified, including one which is particularly blue. The implications of the results are discussed for LMXRB models of 1E2259 + 586: one possibility is that the pulsar is not physically related to the surrounding SNR G109.1 - 1.0.
