In this paper we discuss the effect of the plasma background parameter ωpe/Ωe on spike radiation on the basis of the theory of electron cyclotron maser instability. We discuss the physical meaning of the parameter, its numercial range and the polarization and harmonics structure of the radiation that are especially sensitive to changes in this parameter.
