Results are presented of an analysis of the 1978 solar diameter observations of Caudell et al. (1980) performed to find evidence of the low-degree gravity modes classified by Hill (1986) and by Hill and Gu (1990) and to furnish tests of the classifications with respect to angular order m. These tests are based on correlations of the power densities, the mean power densities, and the mean-square deviations of the power densities found in the 1978 power spectrum with properties of the classified spectrum and properties of the 1979 differential radius observations. Assuming the null hypothesis that no gravity-mode signals are present and/or the mode classifications with respect to frequency are incorrect, the probability for obtaining the observed correlations is computed to be 9.6 x 10 exp -7. The subset of these independent correlation tests obtained with respect to the classified values of m yielded positive results. The findings give further independent evidence that is consistent with the hypothesis that gravity-mode signals have been detected.
