The authors present UBV photometry and some spectroscopic observations
of an anomalous SS Cyg outburst. A comparison of the photometric and
spectroscopic properties of normal and anomalous outbursts gives
evidence that the differences between them are caused by different
behaviour of the Balmer discontinuity.
