Low latitude ground station records of whistlers are used to infer the east-west electric field component on the nightside plasmasphere during magnetic storm periods. Attention is given to the method employed in the measurement of the electric field from the observed cross-L motions of whistler ducts within the plasmasphere. The nose frequencies of the nonnosed whistlers are deduced by means of the Dowden-Allcock (1971) linear Q technique. Results show a substorm electric field reversal from eastward to westward near midnight.
