The path Jupiter travels, a few deg off the ecliptic, is reviewed, and occultations of the planet by the earth moon during 1983 are delineated. Jupiter traverses the ecliptic every 11.86 yr (Julian), and intersects the rotation of the line of possible lunar nodes for a period of 7.24 yr during its revolution, allowing for two periods of occultation. The time interval between the occultation periods averages 3.62 yr. A total of 13 lunar occultations of Jupiter will occur in the Feb. 1983-Jan. 1984 time span. The dates are Feb. 6, Mar. 6, Apr. 2 and 29, May 26, June 22, July 20, Aug. 16, Sept. 12, Oct. 10, Nov. 7, Dec. 5, and Jan. 1. Details of the visibility zones for observations from earth are provided.
