The results of measurements of the mineralogical distribution of Th, U, and Pu-244 in the enstatite meteorites are reported. The obtained information is used to define the behavior of Th and U under highly reducing conditions, evaluate the reported variation of Th/U in enstatite chondrites, and evaluate the suitability of enstatite meteorites for Pu-244/U-238 chronology. For the E-6 chrondrites it is found that the main reservoir for Th and U is oldhamite, which has mean Th and U abundances of 1550 + or - 80 ppb Th and 410 + or - 20 ppb U. For E-5 chondrite, only oldhamite is found to contain substantial quantities of Th and U, while E-4 niningerite contains 45 + or - 5 ppb U. Oldhamite from E-5 and E-4 shows actinide enrichments but at levels about half the E-6 results. A lack of Th-U fractionation is evident in both the oldhamite and the meteorites themselves, which suggests that the enstatite chondrites may be well-suited for Pu-U chronology and for providing the initial Pu-U value in the early solar system.
