The authors present a review of the general properties of Be stars mainly from a statistical point of view. Main topics are the Be star frequency along the spectral sequence, rotational velocities, binary nature, hot-plasma phenomena, mass-loss processes and stellar winds. Finally the authors discuss the general trends in the variabilities along with some examples of long-term variations.
