Long slit image tube spectra have been used to measure ratios of nebular emission lines. The forbidden lines of O II 3729/3726 A and forbidden lines of S II 6716/6730 A doublets define electron densities across the Hourglass region. It is proposed that each of the three O stars of NGC 6530 has a surrounding H II region contributing to the observed emission. Stasinska's models are used to calculate the integrated brightness of emission lines and are shown to be in general agreement with the observations. Galactic positions of the M8 components, consistent with the Lada et al. (1976) model of a star forming region, are proposed.
