Counts of quasars are examined in preparation for the examination of suggested cosmological evolutionary effects. The Green and Schmidt (1978) counts of optically selected quasars may have been biased by the use of distance-dependent morphological criteria, with results that mimic cosmological evolution. Attention is given to the K-correction of quasar counts, yielding a uniform radial distribution for presumably unbiased counts of objects with UV excess and broad emission lines that include quasars and type 1 Seyfert galaxies. The correctness of this sampling of data is dependent on the solution of the redshift problem, and presupposes an inverse correlation between luminosity and intrinsic redshift.
