The main selection effects that determine the sample of visual binaries with computed orbits are analyzed. The main physical parameters of 473 visual binaries are determined. It is shown that the distribution of the stars with respect to the semimajor axes of the orbits is flat after correction for the selection effects and is the same as the distribution for spectroscopic binaries. The mass function of the primary components is the Salpeter function.
