The Second European Symposium on the Protection of the Night Sky took place over the weekend of the 7 September 2003, and was on this occasion hosted by Dark-Sky Switzerland (a section of the International Dark-Sky Association) under the patronage of the Swiss National Commission for UNESCO. There were about 60 delegates in attendance representing nine European countries, which included Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Holland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, as well as astronomers from the USA and Canada. The UK delegates were representatives from the British Astronomical Association's Campaign for Dark Skies, Dr. Chris Baddiley and Graham Bryant.
