Trans-Neptunian Objects is a name given to the class of bodies first discovered in 1992 by Jewitt and Liu when they found 1992 QB1. This was the first finding of a body orbiting outside Neptune with the exception of Pluto, which was found by Clyde Tombaugh in 1930. Further discoveries were soon made suggesting the existence of an outer asteroid belt as initially suggested by Kenneth Edgeworth in these pages in 1946. This belt was called the Edgeworth(Kuiper belt, after him and Gerard Kuiper who publicised it in 1950.
