Saturn, Observations
Scientific paper
The analysis in this paper was based on 170 visual observations, photographs, and CCD images contributed by ALPO observers from 2000 Jun 29 through 2001 Apr 14. Saturn observers reported occasional dusky festoons and other ill-defined dark spots among the belts and zones of Saturn's Southern Hemisphere during the apparition, and diffuse, short-lived white spots were intermittently suspected in the South Tropical Zone and Southern Equatorial Zone. Due to the transient nature of these phenomena, recurring central meridian transit timings were not recorded. The inclination of the ring system to Earth, B, reached a maximum negative value of -24°.440 on 2001 Apr 14. Accompanying the report are references, drawings, photographs, and CCD images, graphs, and tables.
