Solar Orbit, Common Mass Center, Sun-Giant Planets, Sunspot Cycles
Scientific paper
A reconstruction of the solar orbit around the common mass center of the system (Sun - giant planets) has been obtained. It can be noted that the variations of the undecennial sunspot cycle durations repeat likewise themselves every 179±12 years (Jose's period). It is shown an increase of the sunspot activity whenever the orbit of the Sun around the common mass center is strongly elliptical and the value of the instantaneous angular momentum of the Sun about the barycentre of the solar system calculated during the apobacs (L=ωr2) increases. Finally, a function showing the relationship linking the solar motion (angular momentum during the apobacs) and sunspot activity at the time of the sunspot maxima is found. Such a function could have allowed us to get a good prediction of the Wolf index values for the monthly means at the sunspot maxima (near the apobac dates) from 1900 to the last cycles.
