The IGM/Galaxy Connection: The Distribution of Baryons at z=0, ASSL Conference Proceedings Vol. 281. Edited by Jessica L. Rosenb

Scientific paper
The census of baryons in the local universe is still uncertain, but a larger component than is represented by the sum of all galaxies probably exists in hot and diffuse forms that have evaded detection until recently. Our knowledge of the complex, multi-phase intergalactic medium (IGM) is being fueled by a wide range of techniques, from X-ray and optical spectroscopy, to new galaxy surveys, to gas-dynamical simulations.
