Construction of a fifth "extra" dimension typically treats it as space-like. The analysis yields a spin-2 graviton to mediate gravity. However, in all string/brane theories and standard cosmology, mass is an area-like property. Area can thus be re-interpreted as a particulate and cosmological dimension. The six intrinsic space-like dimensions of an explicit QC/ED string/brane curl up to formulate mass. This construction yields a comprehensive theory which is consistent with all existing experiments and observations. The proposed comprehensive theory provides a coherent explanation of the partial successes of many theoretical explorations. Most particularly, cosmology which is cyclic in mass and time is analytically identical to general relativity except that space-time curvature is considered as an imaginary quantity. An obvious answer to the vexing question 'how did the universe get into its initial state?' is thus provided. see http://www-astro-theory.fnal.gov/Conferences/cosmo02/poster/lundberg.pdf
