This paper presents the results on Ar-40/Ar-39 dating of a very strongly shocked banded biotite gneiss collected from the Haughton impact structure near the center of the central crater basin (Anomaly Hill). The results of the Ar-40/Ar-36 vs Ar-39/Ar-36 plot indicate an excess of Ar-40 in the melt samples of the gneiss. The age of the shocked gneiss, and hence of the impact structure, was estimated as 23.4 + or - 1.0 Ma.
