The spacecraft which encountered comet Halley in March 1986 provided detailed information on the composition and size distribution of dust grains in specific regions of the coma. Remote observations provided the vital link to the global properties of Halley and other comets. Some observations of cometary dust and their interpretation are described with reference to the Unit's experiment on Giotto.
