The numerical solution of coupled growth equations for the largest body and smaller planetesimals is presently used to simulate the growth process of the earth from planetesimals, in a gaseous solar nebula, in view of the recently established 'gas-drag' effect on a gravitating body. As little as 10 million years is required for the growth of a body with current earth mass of 6 x 10 to the 27th g from an initial mass of 10 to the 18th g; growth is even faster with dissipation effects due to inelastic collision. At the final stage, growth becomes subject to the rate of mass supply into the accretion zone, with an inward flow of planetesimals being caused by gas drag.
