In this contribution I will describe the problem of extracting useful physics from the gravitational wave detection of a spinning-down pulsar. In particular, I will ask whether or not the information we gain from studying details of the electromagnetic signal enables us to test physical models in ways not possible via gravitational wave detection alone.
