Correlation of the 2MASS near-infrared catalog with the ROSAT X-ray catalog can reliably identify nearby, active M dwarfs. These M dwarfs are typically missing from existing proper-motion based catalogs, yet they are the most interesting from the standpoint of activity studies or extrasolar planet searches. Spectra obtained with the CTIO 1.5-meter telescope will measure the chromospheric activity and improve the temperature and distance estimates for each of these M Dwarfs. The CTIO data will complement our existing northern hemisphere data already obtained using the Palomar 60-inch telescope.
