New values of transition probabilities and cross sections of O v are calculated. Atomic wave functions are calculated in a Thomas Fermi potential for the nine configurations, taking into account configuration mixing due to electrostatic or spin-orbit interaction. Atomic transition probabilities are obtained using the program developed by Eissner and others (1969; 1970). Electron and proton collision strengths are found from these wave equations in the distorted wave and semi-classical approximations, respectively. The theoretical variation of line ratios with electron temperature and density is deduced from the solution of the equations of statistical equilibrium, and the importance of the 2s2p cubed P term is demonstrated. The values of electron density and temperature are deduced from line ratios obtained from U.V. observations, and the sensitivity of these parameters to remaining uncertainties in the atomic data is considered.
