A study is made of the nonequilibrium toroidal fields in the solar convection zone. These fields give rise to flow (which effectively mixes the the interior of the sun) and current layers, which are responsible for efficient field dissipation. It is shown that dissipation is no less efficient in a stratified medium in a gravitational field. The lifetime of toroidal fields in the solar convection zone is estimated.
