The star suspected of exciting the γ Cyg H II region is
classified as 0 9 V from new spectrograms. The H II region, at a newly
derived distance of 1.5 kpc, is in the transition stage from compact
to dense. It most probably belongs to the H II region complex of IC
1318 b and c instead of to the γ Cyg Supernova remnant.
