Several clouds associated with nearby molecular complexes, moderately bright in the far infrared and characterized by an infrared excess (IRE) 100 and a low L/M ratio were identified. These clouds may therefore be representative of a long lasting phase of the local interstellar medium. Their mass is found to be concentrated in condensations of a few 100 solar masses plowing into an ambient gas with a 3-d velocity dispersion approximately 10 km s-1. The lifetime of such a configuration can be significantly increased if the ambient gas is hot and rarefied. It is shown that the ambient medium can be maintained at Tk approximately 10,000 K for a few 10 to the eighth power years, heated mainly by the kinetic energy losses of the condensations, the ultimate energy source being the gravitational potential energy of the whole cloud in a state of virialized contraction.
