Scientific paper
An ESA study for an infrared observatory facility in space is described.
It consists of a 60 cm diameter cooled telescope with a range of
spectroscopic and photometric instrumentation, mounted on a 3 axis
stabilized platform. It will be launched into a 12 hour elliptical orbit
using Ariane, and is designed to have a lifetime of at least 1.5 years.
