I briefly review models and observations of gas inflow in spiral galaxies from the scale of kiloparsecs towards the central parsecs. Asymmetries in galactic potentials are crucial in triggering such inflow, and strong inflow has been indeed observed in stellar bars. Nested bars have been proposed to trigger a cascade of inflow, but it can be shown that inner bars cannot funnel gas as the outer bars do. For certain potential and gas parameters, gas falls towards the centre in a spiral shock.
