M101 is a nearby face-on spiral galaxy which can be used to study the hot ISM in the MilkyWay. We have used a deep Chandra image of M101 to characterize the X-ray emission. The X-ray emission follows the optical light/star formation. The spectrum does not change significantly with radius or with surface brightness. A hard thermal component can be identified with similar emission in the Milky Way; a softer thermal component is likely a combination of several different types of sources.
