A numerical model of planetary rings is discussed in which particles interact through mutual attraction and inelastic collisions. The method employs a Monte Carlo approach and it allows for arbitrary mass distributions. An approximate equation of evolution is derived, and for the simple case where all particles have the same mass, the equation is shown to make possible an explicit computation of the asymptotic behavior of the ring. The model is illustrated with the example of the radial diffusion of an isolated ring with equal-mass particles.
