Overexpansion and the formation of a Mach shock disk is proposed as a mechanism for jet disruption at the edge of a gaseous halo. Degeneration generally occurs when the external pressure appears to the jet as discontinuous. For a steady adiabatic jet, this occurs for halo pressure distributions where p varies as R exp -q, with q between 2 and 2.12, and where R is the distance from the galactic center. The upper limit is the pressure confinement condition. Correlations between radio power, visual magnitude of the associated galaxies, and the positions of greater radio emissivity are obtained and examined for D I radio galaxies.
