A study statistically linking 382 QSOs with the Lick counts of galaxies is critically analyzed, and a new study is made using a larger sample of QSOs whose detection is not expected to bias the statistical results. The previous study is reviewed, and the factors that may have influenced the result are stated. The present study is discussed, including the data, the sample selection, and the statistical method. It is concluded that there is no longer statistically significant evidence for an excess of Lick galaxies close to QSOs, and that any excess left in the previous study after removing biases is due to radio QSOs rather than optical ones. The whole correlation function shows a hump between 1.5 and 2 degrees, which seems to pertain more to high redshift QSOs and to radio QSOs than to optical ones.
