The relationships among Stark widths of various components within a multiplet are analyzed in detail. The widths of isolated lines and the internal radiator structure are studied, and from the analysis of the theoretical Stark broadening formulas that similarities between line widths within a given supermultiplet can be expected on the basis of atomic physics. The causes of large variations of Stark widths can be divided into two groups: irregularities in the atomic energy level structure and failure of the one-electron model used in the calculations. For the O II 3s-3p quartets, semiclassical calculations for Stark broadening parameters have been performed taking into account the emitter structure properly.
