Scientific paper
Theory predicts the cycling of interstellar material through the galactic Halo. Hot gas and dust from SN in the galaxy disk is confined by the ISM from expanding in the plane, and is pushed preferentially into the halo. The gas may be as hot as 100, 000 K and as it expands will cool. The IS medium near the column or chimney will exhibit the spectrum of the cooler material. This proposal searches for the emissions from the hot component in the UV, looking for OVI, Si IV, CIV lines in emission.
