We propose to use the HST Planetary Camera in the first search for stellar companions to nearby low-mass halo {Population II} M-type subdwarfs. Our target list consists of 20 nearby spectroscopically-confirmed subdwarfs with m/H < -1 and M_V > 10 {corresponding to M < 0.25 M_odot}, and represents the known M-subdwarfs within 50 parsecs. All of these stars are too faint to be resolved through ground-based speckle interferometry, thus HST represents the only means of probing separations on the 5-25 a.u. range. If the binary fraction and orbital separations prove to be similar to those of disk M- dwarfs, then we should resolve companions to 20 This survey is likely to find a binary system with a period short enough to allow the first empirical mass determinations for metal- poor VLM stars.
