An analysis of close stellar encounters is carried out. It is shown that
asymptotically and for a strong attractive force, the Holtsmark (1919)
distribution function may be replaced by a function having moments of
all orders. A graph is given of close-encounter parameters and the
force-function fitting point in typical stellar systems.
