Recent observations of a number of cepheids and white dwarfs can be interpreted as showing the presence of up to five irrationally related frequencies in the power spectra of their light curves. For this interpretation to be viable, especially in view of a number of theorems arguing against its likelihood, it is important to show that such motions are in principle possible. Here with the help of a number of "qualitative" models the authors show that such quasi-periodic motion can in fact occur in dissipative and non-linear regimes similar to those present in such stars.
