VLA observations with a 4-arcsec beam show that the 1.4-GHz H I and 1.667-GHz OH transitions associated with the edge-on galaxy NGC 5793 are seen in absorption against a radio continuum source, of angular extent possibly as small as 0.3 arcsec, located near the nucleus. The presence of a narrow-band 'maser' feature in the OH line profile has been confirmed. Any systematic variation of absorbing cloud position with velocity is under 0.05 arcsec. This, together with an H I/OH ratio that varies systematically with velocity, suggests that the 200 km s-1 range in velocity for the absorption is more likely the result of a series of clouds along the line-of-sight with inflowing or outflowing motions than of clouds with a systematic rotation about the nucleus.
