An unfiltered image of comet Giacobini-Zinner was obtained 16 hours after the ICE encounter. While it is not possible to separate the dust, gas and plasma components of the "white light" image, comparisons of the visible structures with ICE in-situ plasma and field observations, groundbased optical data, and computer simulation results suggest that the image shows emission from plasma structures along the equivalent ICE trajectory.
