The authors show preliminary results of a method to put in evidence galactic dust absorption from the analysis of the IRAS point-source data base: IR radiation from external galaxies has been averaged within a strip of 10° at different galactic latitudes. The mean flux tends to decrease towards the galactic equator thus supporting the evidence for an absorption along the galactic plane. Possible spurious effects are discussed.
