Gyroscopic effects in sheared flows of rotating shallow water were studied. Global rotation of the medium is shown to affect margin and increment of instability of sheared flow as well as the eigenfunctions. The Coriolis effects destabilize the short wave length perturbations in supersonic sheared flow (tangential discontinuity) and stabilize the long wave perturbations in case of subsonic discontinuity in velocity. Gyroscopic effects are shown to result in cyclon-anticyclone assymetry in the stability problem for sheared flows and in gyroscopic screening, and in the resonance drive of ship waves, when the chain of barriers is moved in a rotating shallow water. The results of a two-dimensional numerical simulation of the experiments with rotating shallow water are discussed.
