The formation of current sheets in three dimensional magnetic configurations near zero points and zero lines of a magnetic field is discussed. The separatrix surfaces play an important role. The current sheet stability and its rupture is considered. The acceleration of charged particles near null points of a magnetic field in the presence of a uniform electric field is investigated. Solar and stellar flares are described.
