A review of the current interpretations of the Venus ionospheric flow is presented. It is argued that the available experimental measurements of the velocity of the plasma within and outside the Venus ionosphere are consistent with the concept that an efficient transfer of momentum takes place across the ionopause. The data is also examined in regard to the relative participation of mass loading, charge exchange collisions and viscous processes in order to produce the observed deceleration of the shocked solar wind.
