Three-dimensional time-dependent reconnection of skewed magnetic field lines is studied. Reconnection is shown to be possible only in the limited oval-shaped part of the current sheet, which was called the reconnection zone. The size of the reconnection zone is defined by the reconnection line length, the behaviour of the electric field in the diffusion region, as well as by the angle between the reconnecting fields. The reconnected magnetic flux has the same direction as it has in Petschek's model near the reconnection line (normal flux), but it changes its sign in the rest of the reconnection zone (anomalous flux).
