Globular Clusters, Metallicity, Principal Components Analysis, Star Distribution, Distance
Scientific paper
The variety of globular cluster properties is shown to be determined mainly by two factors. The first factor is associated with metallicity and/or the distance from the Galaxy center, while the second is associated with "richness" and/or concentration of clusters. Most observational parameters are determined by preferential action of one of these factors, while the geometrical dimensions of the cluster are dependent on both factors simultaneously. Values of new generalized characteristics corresponding to these factors (i.e., principal components) for 97 globular clusters of the Galaxy are determined. On the plane of the two first principal components the clusters constitute a continous set indivisible into classes.
