A delayed coincidence techique has been used to measure lifetimes of B and C 1Σ+ states of CO. Previous data on these states considerably disagree with each other. It is found that the lifetime of the B 1Σ+ state is 25.9±2 ns and that of the C 1Σ+ state is 2.2±0.5 ns.
