ROSAT was an almost ideal observatory for surveying the X-ray emission from stars of all types. Its response function was well-matched to the emission from stellar coronae. Of the quarter-million X-ray sources detected in the ROSAT all-sky survey, some 25% are galactic stars, and many more stars were detected in deep pointed observations. I shall highlight some of the major results of the ROSAT mission to stellar X-ray astronomy, from the coronae of pre-main sequence stars and the spatial distribution of young stars to the discovery of isolated neutron stars.
