The two main instruments on INTEGRAL, SPI and IBIS will very sensitive to gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). Each is actively shielded and has a relatively small (in comparison, say, to BATSE) field-of-view. As a consequence the instrumental backgrounds will be much lower than previous GRB experiments. Preliminary estimate indicates that IBIS will be 3 x more sensitive than BATSE and that SPI will have comparable sensitivity. This will enable the extension of the log N - log P distribution to much fainter bursts and provide interesting constraints on the burst population. The estimated detection rate is 10-20/year. IBIS should be able to determine arcmin locations for most of these events. These will be promptly broadcast to the ground-based observer community. In addition to source localization, INTEGRAL will perform GRB spectroscopy with unprecedented sensitivity and resolution. In this paper detailed simulations of the response of SPI and IBIS to gamma-ray bursts using the GEANT program are presented. Refined values of the sensitivies and GRB detection rates are given.
