The High-Energy Transmission Grating Spectrometer (HETGS) onboard NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory is designed to perform high resolution X-ray spectroscopy with a spectral resolving power of up to 1000 in the 0.5 to 10 keV energy band. The calibration and science plan of the HETG team covers a large variety of X-ray binary targets including various types of low-mass X-ray binaries, high mass X-ray binaries and black hole candidates. Based on spectral parameters from recent X-ray observations as well as on available emission line data bases, a selection of simulated grating spectra for various targets (e.g. Cyg X-2, 4U1636-53, 4U 1626-67, Vela X-1, Cyg X-1 and SS 433), will not only demonstrate the spectroscopic power of the upcoming Chandra observatory, but also show what plasma diagnostics and atomic line spectroscopy in accretion powered X-ray sources will be like in the future. Emphasis is placed on HETG grating spectral data handling, tools and analysis procedures.
